Self Portrait with Heron by Tillette Self Portrait with Heron by Tillette
My entry for :iconlittlestar: 's self portrait contest!

I decided I wanted to redo :thumb122314607: for the contest. Each image shows me in the the studio surrounded by the things I love: Plants, my work, and of course, birds. The still life is representative of my loves: The heron and plant, for my affinity toward birds and nature in general. The little space man, for my wacky side and love of cartoons and illustration. And the antique bowl, ceramic mug, book, and metal notepad: I love antiques and random junk. x3

The Heron is actually over 100 years old and horribly deteriorated. His neck is falling apart, and both the top part of his head and his wings can come off. :x
=edit= I forgot to mention! This is oil on canvas, about 18x30"
Enjoy!

I agree with axel on the thick strokes of paint! Gives it a really nice quality.

I painted that heron once...the poor dear :(
I like how everything really just blends together smoothly instead of just pieces of a portrait-scape...and how you're using nice thick chunks of paint instead of blending everything together! So nice :D

I will NEVER be able to paint the way that you do! I love the colors! You always have a less saturated background and then your objects are super saturated and it always looks so amazing!

Aww thanks hun! It just takes practice and time. I hadn't ever painted before I came to college, so it's been all about learning. If you ever want help learning how, let me know and i'll give you good honest critiques and books to look at for help. I might actually take pictures of my illustration i'm working on too. Step by step. :3

BTW, your animations are getting more and more amazing. I loooove the lip-synch. :3

Yeah he's been through hell. He gets bumped around alot by the other art students who think he's ugly. I think he's beautiful in all his nasty, falling apart glory. :D

I've a Teddy Bear I've had since I was 4 years old or so. He's scrawny, fur-tinned and the like. Yet his beauty remains
